The Canberra Liberals today refused to support accommodating up to 500 ACT public servants in an office block at Gungahlin.
The ACT Government has committed to moving ACT public servants to an office block in Gungahlin as part of the overall strategy to better house public servants in modern, safe and environmentally sustainable offices that would also include city accommodation.
The ACT Government has already engaged Cox Architects to identify suitable sites for a 7,000 square metre office block able to accommodate up to 500 workers.
Today I made it absolutely clear the ACT Labor Government is committed to locating ACT public servants in Gungahlin.
This will benefit local businesses in Gungahlin, create jobs directly and indirectly in Gungahlin and provide opportunities for more people who live in Gungahlin to work closer to where they live.
Today I gave Mr Seselja and the Canberra Liberals the chance to vote in support of our determination to move public servants to Gungahlin – and they refused.
The failure of the ACT Liberals to back the Government’s plan to accommodate ACT public servants in Gungahlin shows they have no regard for the Gungahlin community – no regard for Gungahlin businesses and no plan to create jobs in Gungahlin.
