Don't miss final weekend of ENLIGHTEN

Released 09/03/2012

I encourage everyone to get out this weekend and see Canberra in a whole new light during the final days of the ENLIGHTEN festival.

Tickets are still available to some events, including By the Water featuring Claire Bowditch and The Clouds at the National Museum tonight.

Spectacular architectural projections will again appear on the National Library of Australia, the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, the National Gallery of Australia, the National Portrait Gallery, and Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre.

The projections are on tonight (Friday) from 8pm to 1am, Saturday from 8pm-1am, and Sunday from 8pm-11pm. The architectural projections are produced by ENLIGHTEN’s professional partner, The Electric Canvas, and feature local artists’ interpretations of what’s inside our iconic buildings.

Other events include:

  • The National Library features Star Light Star Bright, an exploration of the night sky by cartoonist Michael Leunig, Nobel Laureate Professor Brian Schmidt, artist Felicity Spear and performers Adam Cook and Chanel Cole.
  • At Questacon, The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer by Tim Watts will captivate audiences with animation, mime, puppetry, projections and music.
  • The Gallery of Australian Design features Australian Design Series, with some of Australia's most innovative and enquiring minds providing a glimpse of the radical new directions emerging in Australian design.
  • There are also a number of free activities such as the silent disco and live music at the entertainment precinct’s West Side Stage featuring Lanie Lane, Fun Machine, The Ellis Collective, Owen Campbell, Brass Knuckle Brass Band and more.

Also on this Canberra Day long weekend are other Canberra Festival events, such as the screening of the Lights! Canberra! Action! finalist films tonight, the much loved Balloon Spectacular, which begins tomorrow (Saturday) morning, Symphony in the Park on Sunday night, and Celebrate in the Park on Monday 12 March.
