ACT Community shares views on chronic disease care

Released 16/03/2012

ACT Chief Minister and Minister for Health Katy Gallagher MLA today welcomed a forum being held today for community members and health care professionals to discuss and share ideas for improving chronic disease care in the ACT.

The outcomes from the forum entitled ‘The future of chronic disease care in the ACT' will help the Health Directorate to develop a new ACT Chronic Disease Strategy.

"The ACT population has a high level of health compared to the rest of Australia, but an ageing population, and changes in lifestyle and behaviour, are contributing to an increasing rate of chronic diseases in the ACT," the Chief Minister said.

"Today's forum will provide the Health Directorate with an opportunity to listen to a diverse range of stakeholders, community members, non-government organisations and health care practitioners.

"The outcomes of today will be used in the development of the new Strategy to ensure that it includes strategies and initiatives that are appropriate, community-focussed and are supported by the ACT community when we are dealing with long term management of chronic health problems.

"This forum is another example of the ACT Government working closely with the community to ensure that important government policy meets the needs and reflects the views of those it serves," the Chief Minister concluded.

There will be further opportunities for community members to be involved in consultation for a new ACT Chronic Disease Strategy. Find out more information and register your interest for receiving further updates at http://quorus.com.au/projects/act-chronic-disease-strategy
