Dr Chris Bourke MLA will this afternoon present the winner of the 2012 Chief Minister's
Sailing Regatta with the coveted Chief Minister's Cup.
The regatta is run each Australia Day by the Canberra Yacht Club.
A fleet of more than 100 boats is expected to sail in Canberra's largest regatta with nine divisions competing in the West Basin and West Lake areas and commences at 2pm.
"As a land locked city, Canberra is blessed to have Lake Burley Griffin as a great recreational resource and to see such a large fleet sailing in this regatta will be a great sight," said Dr Bourke.
"The Chief Minister's Regatta has become one of the main events on our Australia Day calendar and I encourage Canberrans to get down to one of the many vantage points around the West Basin and the West Lakes areas to see the lake come alive."
The race will run for approximately two hours, depending on the wind, and the awards ceremony will take place outside the Canberra Yacht Club just after 4.00pm with Dr Bourke presenting the prizes and title trophy.
