This morning I joined franchisee Mark Creelman to officially open the city’s latest McDonald’s restaurant, right in the heart of Civic’s bus interchange.
The interchange is a constant hive of activity and a major thoroughfare for thousands of Canberra’s workers and commuters, and this new McDonald’s Family Restaurant is perfectly located to serve potential customers from early morning to late at night, seven days a week.
McDonald’s has long been recognised as an excellent employer of young people, instilling a strong work ethic, promoting teamwork and responsibility, and encouraging personal development for their employees.
This new McDonald’s will employ upwards of 125 staff and provide valuable flexible employment opportunities for those seeking work in the hospitality industry.
The opening of this restaurant is a vote of confidence in Civic. It is pleasing to see that local businesses have the confidence to invest in Canberra’s city centre.
In addition, the strong recognition-factor of McDonald’s Golden Arches will almost certainly see this location become a highly identifiable meeting place for the interchange area.
Mark Creelman and his fellow franchisees make a significant contribution to their local communities supporting sporting organisations and charities such as Ronald McDonald House.
As part of their community contribution, the franchisees are supporting the building of a new Ronald McDonald House as part of the new Women and Children’s Hospital.
This is the first time in Australia that such a facility has been built as part of a hospital and I congratulate the McDonald’s franchisees for their support of this initiative.
