The $21 million Clarrie Hermes Drive extension linking West Gungahlin to the Barton Highway is expected to be opened early in mid February 2012 assuming normal weather conditions.
The project was originally scheduled for completion in April 2012.
The Barton Highway intersection is expected to be completed and opened by the end of November 2011.
The project will provide another access point to to West Gungahlin to cater for increased traffic expected as new suburbs come online. It will also reduce congestion on the local road network in the suburb of Nicholls.
To minimise the impact of noise on Casey and Nicholls barriers made of a mix of materials including cement jointed random rock and plexiglas panels, reaching heights of 2 metres will be included as part of the project.
