Today I helped reveal the new GWS Giants Canberra home guernsey that will be worn for all games played at Manuka during the 2012 AFL season.
The guernsey was an entry in the community design competition which was won by Brindabella College and another local Canberran, graphic designer John Garrard.
Having the GWS playing in Canberra is great news for local AFL fans.
It is also great news for Canberra’s tourism operators who will benefit greatly from the thousands of visitors games will attract from around our region.
While the Giants partnership with Canberra does not formally commence until 2012, we have already witnessed the club being actively involved in our community.
Throughout 2011, GWS has competed against local clubs in the North East Australian Football League and made numerous visits to Canberra schools to conduct coaching clinics.
The Giants are making an important contribution to our sporting community by presenting a pathway for young athletes who play AFL locally and who aspire to one day play at the elite level.
The Giants first home game in Canberra will be against the Western Bulldogs at Manuka Oval on Saturday, April 28 at 2pm.
