Two students from Amaroo School have won prestigious awards for their work in raising awareness of Indigenous culture, traditions and diversity.
ACT Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs Dr Chris Bourke today presented the two students with their Prime Minister's NAIDOC Medals and congratulated them for their efforts.
"Many congratulations to these two Amaroo School students for being chosen out of more than 168,000 entries from schools in the ACT and NSW for these Medals.
"It is vitally important that children realise the importance of NAIDOC Week and having their peers promoting the issues is the best way for this to happen."
The Prime Minister's NAIDOC Medals initiative is coordinated by Koori Kids, a company that provides young people with programs and events that provide awareness and support to Aboriginal and non aboriginal communities.
"NAIDOC Week is the leading celebration of Indigenous traditions and culture in Australia and it is worthwhile doing anything we can do to encourage children to become involved in this event."
