Today I was delighted to attend the Smith Family’s annual Government House open day, and take part in a charity cook-off to help promote healthy eating.
The open day featured a range of entertainment and market stalls, showcasing food, wine, and arts and crafts from the Canberra region.
Alongside University of Canberra Brumby flyhalf Matt Toomua and Grayson Flittner of the Canberra Gunners I took part in a charity cook-off, which had the theme of healthy eating.
The charity cook-off was a terrific way to deliver the message that healthy eating really does contribute to the overall wellbeing of children and families.
Along with regular exercise, nutritious meals play a fundamental role in the development of young people’s physical, social and mental wellbeing.
The ACT Labor Government works in partnership with many organisations on initiatives that are designed to improve the health and wellbeing of young people and the broader community.
Programs such as the Go For Two & Five ® campaign show that it’s easy to get more fruit and vegetables each day. School canteens also have an important role in educating children and young people about healthy eating.
I thank the Smith Family for its creative approach in raising awareness about positive food choices.
